Althea Rahman is a multidisciplinary artist and musician based in California. With degrees in Fashion Design and Oboe Performance, and additional studies in Textile Design and Computer-Based Design, Rahman blends her diverse educational background with her creative passions. As a visual artist and musician, she finds inspiration in nature, animal portraits, and the interplay between different artistic mediums.

Rahman’s favorite media include digital art, acrylic painting, and collage, and her work often explores themes of pets, wildlife and the natural world. Her artistic style is influenced by the meticulous observations of ichthyologist and scientific illustrator Margaret Mary Smith, as well as the abstract expressionist techniques of Robert Rauschenberg. These influences and others combine to inform her approach to both realistic and abstract forms, allowing her to capture the intricate details of nature while embracing creative freedom.

In addition to her artistic practice, Rahman is passionate about teaching. She currently teaches elementary music and art, where she introduces young students to the joys of creativity and self-expression. Recently, she collaborated on a large-scale mural project for her school, working with students to bring their collective vision to life. Currently, she is guiding her students through the art of tapestry weaving, helping them to develop patience, focus, and an appreciation for textile arts.

With a blend of traditional craftsmanship and innovative digital techniques, Rahman continues to explore new ways to merge her varied interests into thought-provoking and visually engaging work.
